Speculative Futures is an installation in which the viewer is invited to an immersive experience. It consists of twelve solar robots that create a performance by moving their heads in gentle movements to worship the sun. The sound was generated by live coding music.
Peaceful, protectors of a legacy that they must preserve and assist in a planet that is no longer their own, because their creators -former humans- never understood how to live in harmony and protect the Earth in order to preserve themselves as a species.
The concept of this work is that these robots were discovered by archaeologists in a remote location billions of years ago.
The current environmental problems and the lack of action by the main actors lead us to think of other possibilities when we can no longer inhabit our planet.
These expeditionary robots are based on the previous work "Robotika" developed in 2019.
The work itself is originally a site-specific installation produced in the Sonoran Desert, California as part of an award-winning Mars College residency programme run by ThoughtWorks Arts. It was exhibited and performed live during sunrises and sunsets.
